Victoria Poleva: Face to face

During the church service on Sunday, March 16, Face to Face, a new composition by the Ukrainian composer Victoria Vitá Poleva, will be performed. She wrote this piece for the Swedish Radio Choir, basing it on the Song of Love from 1 Corinthians 13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. Love never ends.” Poleva has dedicated the composition to the contemporary Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

The music piece aligns with the reading about the Transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain, where the disciples see Jesus face to face along with the prophets Moses and Elijah. Additionally, the service will feature music by the Italian composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (c. 1525–1594), whose 500th birth anniversary is being celebrated this year, and the British composer Richard Shephard (1949–2021).

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Love never ends.”
