DCV 405 – Svyatoslav Lunyov: Tutti for Symphony Orchestra

The third concert in the IM SPIEGEL series organized by the CosmoKultur St. Gallen association will present one of Svyatoslav Lunyov’s most important compositions, “Tristium” from 2004 for string orchestra.

Piano Marathon – Anthonii BARYSHEVSKYI This autumn, the inaugural Ukrainian Culture Weeks in Oxford will take place. During the most challenging period for Ukraine since its independence, this three-day festival offers an opportunity to celebrate and honour Ukraine’s rich culture and heritage.

“Where are you, Adam?” is set in the ancient Dochiariou monastery on the western shore of Oros Athos (Oros Athos is a peninsula in northeastern Greece, east of Chalcidice, in the Greek region of Macedonia). No fewer than 40 monasteries were built here between 963 and 1545. Twenty now remain, including the Dochiariou monastery.

Unity is the word to describe the idea and composition of the concert.  The concert program, first of all, combines the Ukrainian and Georgian music of two genius composers – Giia Kancheli and Valentyn Sylvestrov. Not only are they the treasure of the world culture, they also were good friends and true like-minded people.

Works by Svyatoslav Lunyov and Maxim Shalygin next to the pieces by Boris Ljatoshinsky and Valentin Silvestrov on the program of Kyiv Chamber Orchestra under Mikheil Menabde.

Shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, master pianist Antonii Baryshevskyi moved to Amsterdam. He has won prestigious piano competitions and, as an artist in residence, will be our guest multiple times this season. On several occasions, he has made a stunning impression in our concerts. Baryshevskyi is a passionate advocate for Ukrainian piano music.

In all works on Baryshevskyi’s all-Ukrainian program, the disastrous war waged against his homeland resonates. The youngest, Maxim Shalygin (1985), has been living and working in the Netherlands for years.

Fierce January 2023 – premiere new song cycle by Svyatoslav Lunyov. Ukrainian composer Svyatoslav Lunyov has a distinct voice all his own. His music can be quiet and spiritual, but also full of sardonic humour. As a listener, it is impossible not to be moved.

For almost two years now, war is raging in Ukraine. Countless civilians have fled their country, leaving behind everything they have. More that a hundred thousand have found refuge in the Netherlands; many of whom are hosted in the homes of those volunteering to do so.

Last year in Carnegie Hall New York, this year in Kyiv! Christmas songs ‘The Noel Consort’ for mixed choir by Svyatoslav Lunyov will be performed by Lyatoshinskiy Capella under Olga Prykhodko at the Cathedral Sophia, Kyiv.

Chamber Orchestra of the North will play a memorial concert in De Oosterpoort on Saturday, May 4. Beautiful melodious music reflects on the terrible horrors of war, on the innocent victims of all wars.

Celia Swart (1994, NL) is a new music composer, saxophone player and visual artist. Growing up playing saxophone and piano, she found her love for composing.

Education Michael has a degree in English Literature from the State University of New York. Despite having no formal music education, he has an active international career in several aspects of the music business.
