Savvas Karantzias: Katharsis

At the heart of the concert lies Katharsis (2023–2024) by the Greek composer Savvas Karantzias, written for mixed choir, percussion, and solo violin. Conceived as a contemporary Mass in nine movements, the work is dedicated to Arvo Pärt and Veljo Tormis, bringing together the Greek and Estonian sonic worlds in a language of profound spiritual intensity.

In dialogue with this work, the French composer Christopher Gibert presents Hymnus, inspired by a 13th-century Occitan–Cathar manuscript. The piece weaves together texts from the New Testament with verses by Frank T’Hézan, forming a musical quest for light and austerity.

The concert thus unfolds as a bridge between East and West, memory and creation—an inclusive, universal dialogue shaped through beauty and shared experience.
