Like everyone around us, Donemus Publishing is appalled by the invasion of Ukraine, which we strongly condemn.
Donemus publishes several composers from Ukraine. One is living in Kyiv, guarding a bridge with a gun in his hands. One is living in Lviv, where it is quiet, but completely unsure for how long. Some are already living in the Netherlands, but they fear for their beloved ones, hiding for many days underground, facing uncertainty of what will happen next days, hours even.
Donemus is in contact with Russian composers and musicians as well. We know that they can be scared to speak out because the smallest action of sympathy to their Ukrainian music colleagues seems to be noticed by the authorities. Even conducting ‘Alle Menschen werden Brüder’ has already lead to oppression.
We hope and pray the peace will prevail over war. Our thoughts are with all our music friends during this crazy and cruel times. We carry you in our hearts.
Listen to ‘Canto della guerra’, composed by Lex van Delden, 55 years ago, on lyrics by Erasmus.
